Hearing Aid Awareness Week Celebrated Here in Arizona

Our audiologists aim to treat hearing loss all year long, but Hearing Aid Awareness Month is a special time of year where we like to emphasize the importance of wearing hearing aids to improve the quality of your life. If you or someone you know has untreated hearing loss, you are not alone. There are multiple reasons for hearing loss hearing-aids-cic[1]affecting an estimated 35 million children and adults in the United States have a hearing loss. There are social, emotional and psychological aspects of impaired and untreated hearing loss which is why increasing awareness is so important for all of us.

World Hearing Aid Awareness Week promotes the use of hearing aids to better the quality of life rather than hide behind the embarrassment or be unwilling to wear a device – in fact less than 25% of all people who need hearing aids actually get them. Most people don’t realize that the majority of hearing loss can be treated with hearing aids. With our online hearing test or aural rehabilitation combined with the appropriate testing, our audiologists can tell whether or not your hearing loss could benefit from a hearing aid. Today’s hearing aids have changed dramatically. They are more like high tech, smaller devices worn in or behind the ear and are effective at amplifying sounds so that your life finds some normalcy in every day interactions. Wearing a hearing aid can help you actively participate in meaningful conversations, enjoy large gatherings, and feel better about yourself. It can also have financial benefits. For example, a survey conducted by Better Hearing Institute shows that people “who ignore their hearing problems collectively lose a staggering $100 billion a year in earnings.” But, research indicates, income loss can be cut in half by wearing hearing aids.

In the case of hearing loss in children, untreated hearing loss can affect school performance and social development. Untreated hearing loss can also endanger your safety, isolate you from your friends and family, can cause embarrassment, social stress, tension, and fatigue and most importantly could keep you from enjoying life’s most meaningful moments that turn into memories.  Our hearing aids and audiologists are prepared to serve your needs and amplify sounds based on your lifestyle and degree of hearing loss. Not all hearing aids are made the same, so you will benefit from contacting one of our offices at your earliest convenience.
